Default Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits

So I live in a Small south Ga town that's famous for Making its money off of fines and tickets. Well the other day I got a citation for violating a city ordinance for discharging of firearm within city limits. Because a officer was close by and he heard the shoots and asked my neighbor first and she told on me.. he then came and asked me and I didn't lie or nothing and told em it was me. I had only done it because I was with Friend and I was selling gun to him and he wanted to see if it worked properly so I showed him. And i had shoot it at the grass in my backyard and I even showed cop where bullets struck on the grass. So I called the court. To see how much ticket was and it turns out it's 1313$ which I think is to much. Since towns small and I didn't put nobody's life in risk by shooting it in the air. And not like I ever lied to the cop. Is their a way I can ask for it to be lowered? Or something I could do ?
I'm also a full-time college students with no job so I really don't how i will get all that money without goin into debt

Are you charged with violating OCGA 16-11-103, or with an ordinance that specifically prohibits your action within city limits? If the latter, if you want anybody to be able to look up the ordinance you will need to identify the town. OCGA 16-11-103 is a misdemeanor criminal offense, so if you're charged with only an infraction of some sort you should consider yourself lucky that you're not facing a more serious charge -- and if you're charged with a misdemeanor ordinance violation you need to consider that conviction will result in a criminal record.

A college student should know better than to fire a gun within city limits. The fact that you were cited is hardly a surprise, and is nobody's fault but your own.

You can attempt to negotiate a plea bargain with the prosecutor.

You discharged a firearm inside of a city or town and you are truly surprised that you are in trouble?!?!

Holy smokes! Kiddo, you could have KILLED someone! Bullets skip, ricochet, and do all manner of unexpected things at times. If you cannot handle a firearm responsibly, sell it or give to someone who is a little more mature - at least until you can develop some more common sense!

Consult a local attorney for the best way to mitigate any potential legal penalties if they might be something more than simply a fine.

Under the state law, "public highway" includes any public street or road; but if it's an ordinance that forbids discharging a firearm within city limits then there is no need to break out a tape measure.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I also live in a small Georgia town. I wonder if you could ask for a jury and just explain that you were selling the gun and demonstrating it? I'm sure at least half of the jury members own guns and would understand and convince the rest to get you off.

Don't forget admitting guilt to the jury.
