My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas
Hello, me and my family had to move from our former home due to dire straights. We were offered by a family friend a 2 bedroom apartment until we got on our feet. We were told we would not have to face rent until then, but from the moment that we got here they started pushing for it. They also used my family to help them start a business before suddenly changing their minds. We were offered the help so we took it being the "landlady" was a friend whom was helped out of a bad situation. We used each last dime we had to even get here, with our pet dying in the process. I am quite ill right now and its been acknowledged that I am. We paid them money without any written agreement or a lease and they now want to serve us, improperly by hand delivering an eviction with a 1200.00 fee notice. It is not sealed or anything, like that. She also refused to tell us the reason only telling my mother in law you need to speak with your daughter and stormed out. No one had done a thing to this woman. She also called the cops over us showing up at her home to try and ask her what was the reason and to work out something. But either way, we were lead out here on lies and now tricked. Even with money in their hands and no lease. I would like to add that they also know our situation full and well.
