Default Do You Have to Pay for Unauthorized Medical Care

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Oklahoma

I was falsely accused of attempting suicide. The police officer that showed up at my house allowed me to refuse the ambulance, however told me that I did not have a choice in whether or not we were going to to go the hospital. I told him that I did not give him consent to take me to the hospital because I did not have insurance or the money to pay for a hospital visit that was not needed as I had not done anything to hurt myself. He put me in handcuffs and took me to the hospital, despite my refusal to go. He also told me that I would not be responsible for any of the bills because he was the one taking me there. Now several months later, I have been sent to collections and told that they cannot provide me with proof of the debt or documentation that I might have signed even authorizing the debt (which I never signed anyway). I did not wish to be taken to the hospital. I was forced there against my will and forced to have tests done to prove my innocence. And now I'm the one being forced to pay for it and being threatened with it being put on my credit report. Is there anything I can do? I'm unemployed and still don't have insurance or money to pay for charges I refused in the first place and was told I wasn't going to be billed for.

Why do you think the police officer would know who would be responsible for the charges? Why exactly were they called in the first place?

How was treatment forced upon you?

The police officer told me that because I was taken there by him, I would not be financially responsible for anything. They were called because someone called them to report that I had attempted suicide, which was false. I was taken to the hospital in handcuffs, then handcuffed to the bed, with treatment performed on me even though I had refused it. The officer authorized it to be done, not me.

Then you have all the paperwork with his signature on it, right?

For that matter, police do not routinely show up at people's homes to see if anyone has recently attempted suicide. What happened that they were there in the first place?

I don't have any paperwork. I requested copies of it from the collection agency and was told they cannot provide me with it.

The police did not randomly show up at my house. Some people who are now former friends of mine called them and falsely accused me of attempting suicide. I had not done anything to hurt myself, nor was I going to. But they took me to the hospital to have tests done to prove that I hadn't done anything.

And what made these people think you were about to kill yourself?

Then you are free to tell the collection agency to pound sand until they can prove that you authorized the treatment.

They won't prove anything, of course, but be prepared for the debt to show up on your credit report.

So they just randomly decided to call the police and tell them you were a threat to yourself, and the police found you quietly sitting there reading your newspaper or watching Law and Order reruns, and decided you were in imminent danger?

Why does that sound a little unlikely?
