Default Credit Card Debt After Divorce

My question involves a marriage in the state of: NJ

My ex and i divorced on 2/12/14. I opened a credit card in my name and authorized him to use the card in 2011. He has since charged over $22,000 on his card (which is ultimately, my debt). He is paying each payment on time, but it's showing on my credit report. Our decree only accounted for the debt he accrued while we were married ($8,000). I'd like the $22,000 transferred to his name/card/credit report so i am no longer attached to it. Do i have any recourse in the matter? If I get a lawyer, is it likely that I'll win? Would it be possible to have my ex pay the lawyer fees for this (as part of the judgement if i do win)? Please help!

Have you removed him as a current authorized user?

if he is complying with any agreement you had you have no valid claim to have the debt assumed by your ex.

so, what was any agreement you had regarding him using the card and paying the account?

You should have cancelled the card in conjunction with the divorce. You would still have been responsible to the creditor for the balance but it would have been a lot less.

Doesn't mean squat to the credit card company or the credit bureaus.

No. Not as long as he is making the payments on time.

There's nothing to win because there are no grounds for you to pursue anything.

You made a mistake by not cancelling the card when you got divorced. Now you have to live with it.
