Q: In Ohio is it legal for police to sit on private property clocking speed?
A: Yes.
Q: Do they first need written permission to do so, if legal?
A: No.
Can I refuse them the right to do so if it is my property?
you might try asking nicely first, before looking into the legality of it. my office has a narrow driveway into the parking lot, and we are located on a highway with a lot of traffic, over a blind hill. speeders have caused many wrecks in this area, due to the hilliness and plethora of driveways. cops often speedtrap from across the street, at a busniess undergoing renovation, but they also started to trap here at my office, which, on my drvieway, made it difficult for customers to pull in. i approached the officer, and asked him nicely if he could move to a new area, and explained my predicament with the narrow driveway, he had no problem with it, and even reported it to his superiors, i havent had a single cop car blocking my driveway since.
