Default Re: Cited for Shoplifting at a Hospital After a Seizure at the Store

Again, the woman I dealt with who underwent some sort of episode later had no recollection that she was even in the mall as well - and she maintained that she had stayed home with her baby that day. Obviously, that wasn't true, as she was hauled off from our store by ambulance before regaining her faculties in the hospital.

The difference is, you say you were purchasing things and what not, and apparently having interactions with people. With the woman I dealt with, we received an emergency call asking for an ambulance, because she had been in the middle of purchasing something and suddenly, according to the clerk, she just stopped responding, stopped acknowledging anything, stared off vacantly, and seemed to not be able to hear anything going on around her. When I arrived, that was exactly as I found her as well.

If things are as you say, bring your doctors to court as expert witnesses. I fully acknowledge that your story is POSSIBLE - because when it comes to the mind, there is a lot we don't know. But this will be an uphill climb for you all the way, and the fact that you were buying things, talking to people, concealing merchandise, and signing citations doesn't bode well for you.

Default Re: Cited for Shoplifting at a Hospital After a Seizure at the Store

This is the lack of understanding about seizures, and how they work Yes i have gone for about 5 years without a seizure until the new doctor at the local VA said he wanted to put me on a different med, a generic one, then the surgeon that is planning to do the spinal operation put me on two meds for pain and another one for the disk degeneration. According to them it was reaction of the meds and the change that brought this on. According to them I had an allergic reaction, then they called it a interaction of the meds. Like Attorneys each Doctor has a different approach, or diagnosis of a situation. as soon as they stopped the generic med, of them, I started feeling better, and the seizures went back to what it originally was, things began to improve. I think they said it was Carbamazepine (Generic) back to Tegretol XR... The pharmacologist says Generics are not always the same as the original and can react differently, or the body adapts to one not the other. Bottom line is I am drifting back to a much better state of health. The VA is what I have and although the care is improving the government is not one to have all the medical answers!!
So as most humans we only want to see or assume the bad in any person. Yes i have asked myself many times did I want to do this and don't remember? or is it something else? the last time this happened I was charged with and was sentenced to petty theft because i walked out of the store with a watermelon and left the paid for stuff in the basket!. And then they said I was aggressive to the store security which made it worse,,,, even though the neurologist believed i had a seizure, the court did not, The Judge was Pissed because I said I didn't remember, the Attorney at the time said I should tell the judge what he wanted to hear or expected to hear and it would have gone better., four or five weeks later i was hospitalized after I wandered off and it was at this time they recorded three seizures on a EEG and diagnosed them. this cost me a big chunk of my life memories that to this day i am angry over not being able to remember them..... So as some one said earlier , am I using this to test my story???? well the answer is no! i was wanting to see what and how to handle the problem. What I find is the same as before in that there is no understanding or education about seizures and what they can do, or how different they are from person to person! what i will do is like the one attorney said , Tell the Judge what he wants to hear and hope for the best! lie, yes that is the real answer, as people do not or cannot bring themselves to a understanding of what could have happened... and or that a seizure can do something like this... BTW a neighbor said i was out walking up and down the street the day before I did this , and that i was picking up sticks and making piles???? I don't remember this and even though she thought it was odd, she just thought I was doing it for fun... two days before this my son said I kept calling him and asking what he was doing and told him I was building a plane????, He thought it was not like me, but figured, what the heck, I was bored,,, I don't remember either one. the Attorney says we don't want to tell these stories as they would hurt me and probably get me locked up as mental!!! I don't think so, but who knows? The Neurologist says if I had fallen down and started shaking, everyone one would be saying oh gee that poor guy and believe it all! He says people can not understand what they don't see. He may be right... as for driving , yes the law said if i did not have a seizure for six months, it is fine,,, same thing now,, if i don't have one for six months or a year i drive... i have not had an accident for over 20 years and no tickets.... if I was Diabetic and went into shock i could still drive in six months as long as a Doctor says it is in control.. A diabetic has a higher chance of getting into a serious accident than any one else... not asking for sympathy, only looking at how to tell my story and pray for the best...most people I think are like Deputy Dog,,, and say "This is all bull sh-t... they cant or don't want to see it.... last story,,, you see a kid paint his face red and run in circles yelling and screaming, you say he is just being a kid, but there are many cases where when the Kid is analyzed and the Doc says it is a seizure, Most people would then say the Doc is the one that is crazy he is just wanting to milk money out of you for the treatment. they don't want to think the

Deputy Dog,,, Yes I think I was, as there was merchandise in the car with date and time on it.. I don't know how it got there... that is why my wife has been asking who took my keys and did they put it there,, So far no answers... As for the store security report it just says i was not answering their questions or refused, and was not making sense, they said i kept complaining of pain... when the police came they brought the ambulance which took me to the hospital i don't remember being at the store, told everyone I must have been there a different day.. Officer said he could not get answers from me and only got my address from going through my wallet,,, Doctor said I insisted I drove myself to the hospital when i got there. Doctor also said when wife arrived and I saw her i didn't recognize her until she started talking to me.. Doctor said he almost didn't release me because of that and then he found the medical alert card in my belongings and saw the seizure noted in the file. his statement was until then he did not know what was going on.. Doc said I kept telling everyone I hurt, and i was in Texas and the date was back in the 80's and couldn't tell them who President was... Oh yes I signed a citation, it is a straight line with some squiggle lines on it. Officer said he saw me do that and that was all he needed for his part. Wife says it is a million miles from being my signature and she thought Officer did it for me so he could leave...And yes now in a frame of mind where i am looking at all everyone says, I think it is a story i don't believe!!!! reason being is ,,,, in my mind,,,,, i was not at the store, i think in my mind or have the feeling, iIstill need to go there!~

to deputy Dog,,, Thank you, at least you have had some form of similarity, even though there are things different, you have seen. for me I wish I could explain better, I have to go by what is told to me, what was written or partially written! What my wife, doctor, friends have explained and the like. If the hospital had not given her the citation I would have not known. I guess each person is different but has similar portions. My neurologist and my Psychiatrist say there is no way to know which wires cross or which signals get crossed in a seizure. They cant tell me what will happen when i have one, But I can tell you they want to perform what they call a Lobotomy and remove what they believe is the area of concern. They do tell me that they have no idea of the outcome! they say they are 80 percent sure it will stop the seizures but they also say in getting it done, there is a fifty per cent chance of coming out of the operation not remembering anything to remembering some things, they do agree that I will loose something.. I say no as how would you live not knowing your past, places you have lived, friends, even the possibility of not knowing your wife or kids. Pretty scary stuff! kind of like a b rated movie only happening to you. That is why I refuse the clinical work. As for now as long as i take my meds I live with of gaps and holes in my life and memory. Day to day life now is ok, I could drive and i can get new memories but i still have the lost areas. Right now it is just one more hole in the mind and memory. What is worse is that I am a Vet and i ask over and over, why could it not have taken away the faces and the feelings and the horror i have from what they call PTSD.. instead it took good times and memories, I wish i could have back. Things my family tell me about palaces and times that sound so good. I always ask my self why couldn't the faces and screams of Vietnam have not gone away???? Bottom line thanks for the fact that you do see a possibility and have had a little experience with this or something like this. I suppose if I were in your shoes, i would first see someone as taking advantage of the fact or using this as an escape .
