What Happens if You Are Charged With Shoplifting

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oklahoma

I got caught shoplifting at Wal-mart today in Stillwater, Oklahoma. First time I've ever done anything like that... I did it because I have friends who have done it hundreds of times and never gotten caught, and money is tight for me right now. I know that doesn't justify it, and I'm incredibly ashamed and disappointed in myself for giving into peer pressure.. I tried to take $47.93 in merchandise.

Anyways, I have no prior record and I fully cooperated. The workers who caught me said I was under "citizens arrest" and the officer gave me a $549 citation and a court date.

What happens now?

What happens now?

You go to court. You end up with a civil demand and a criminal record unless you qualify for diversion. You will also most likely be banned from all Wal-mart stores and have issues getting certain jobs. And no one is going to believe it is the first time you ever did it. It will be thought that it is the first time you ever got caught!
