Default Recovering Custody of a Chlld Placed With a Grandparent

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: California. The mother of his 5yr old lost custody of 3 children only one is his. 2 children reside with maternal grandmother (his daughter) 1 resides with maternal grand father and step mom. He was never notified of this until now. He didn't even know where his daughter was as the mom moved constantly. The mother is a drug user and on the run from police The grandmother had requested child support from him for his daughter He would like to get his daughter back since this has been brought to his attention. HE lives in Colorado he moved from California almost a yr ago when he couldn't find his daughter

He needs an attorney. Depending on the actual details, he might not actually end up with custody of his 5 year old.

How long has it been since he was regularly involved in his daughter's life? Even if he had regular involvement previously it would be a very long and drawn out process for him to get custody if CPS was involved in the situation, with no certain guarantee that he would prevail. It could even be a long and drawn out process if CPS was not involved.

He certainly can and certainly should try for custody if he feels that it is in the best interest of his child, however he will really need an attorney due to the fact that the case would be in CA and he lives in CO, and he would have to be prepared for it to take some time and money. If CPS is involved he would also have to jump through some major hoops, so hopefully so his own personal situation is totally clean.

He can expect to pay child support in the interim.

    I have a question.

He moved to Colorado from California almost a year ago "when he couldn't find his daughter".

    What does that mean, exactly?
