My husband and I just recently got married. My daughter, (turning 3), has only known him as her father since she was under a year. On her birth certificate and every little piece of paperwork given to me at county (for assistance purposes), I have stated that I do not and still do not know who her biological father is. I was told that even so, I would have to go to court to get her name hyphenated to include our new family name. I asked if this would even be the without me knowing who that "biological father" is? They said yes, that he has a right to fight it. I have no idea where to start....![]()
We definitely want my husband to adopt our daughter. What are the steps we need to do that? Would it then be easier to hyphenate our daughter's name? Should I just go out and get a lawyer now? Will I have to eventually anyway? And anyone know any very cheap ones in the East Bay Area, California?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
