    My question involves a marriage in the state of: California

    How do I divorce a husband who was deported, when his whereabouts are unknown.

    You file for divorce, you document your inability to serve your husband and get permission from the court for substituted service, you follow the court's instructions on effecting substituted service, then (assuming your husband does not appear and defend) ultimately get a default judgment of divorce.

    Substitute service often consists of publishing the notice in the legal announcement section of the newspaper for a certain number of issues or days or weeks and then submitting the documentation to the court.
