She can review the information on the court's website or prosecutor's website to see what information is there regarding diversion and deferral; if she cannot find relevant information, or does not appear to qualify, she can discuss her options further with a criminal defense lawyer. Even if she learns about a program and believes she will qualify, it makes sense to consult a lawyer. If she intends to fight the charge, through trial if necessary, IMHO she definitely needs a lawyer.
