Default Fighting a Parking Ticket Issued by a Company Contracted to My College

My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: Georgia

Important stuff is in red. Extra details/musings in black.

I received a parking ticket while parked at my university because the space next to my car ran out of time. I have photographic evidence to back myself up. The ticket isn't much but the parking and transportation company (contracted by the school) is notorious for handing out tickets when there has been no infraction because most people figure it is not worth their time to fight it. They make tons of money every year from these illegitimate tickets. Many people have gone to the school to complain but nothing has happened. If you try to fight the ticket, they merely lower the fine by a small amount if you prove that you were not in the wrong rather than actually cancelling the fine. If you don't pay the fine, they will boot your car and/or have the school put academic holds on your account so you cannot register for classes of receive a transcript and report you to collection agencies.

This company also has a practice of selling more parking passes than there are parking spots in order to force students to park in zones that their parking pass is not good for so the Parking & Transportation officers can ticket the students. They also force students in certain parking areas to move their cars to other parts of campus on days that there are football games so they can sell those spots to people attending the games. If you do not move from the spot you paid for, you get a ticket. There have been instances of students that have moved across campus when told to by P&T only to get a ticket for being in the wrong parking zone. The P&T company also openly contradicts itself on parking policy, having signs up that say that parking zones are not enforced on weekends or after 5PM on weekdays, also saying the same thing on their website but have been caught giving out tickets during the times specified and their response has been "the signs and the website are wrong". As they also run the bus service on campus (which is horribly inefficient and environmentally unfreindly but that's not illegal unless one could argue that they are false advertising, our student fee is huge because of them) and the bus drivers have caused many accidents without any real consequence. I have almost been hit by a bus that cut me off pulling out from a slip without any signal, causing me to have to swerve into the opposite lane of traffic to avoid a collision. I bought a dash camera shortly after.

Is there any way I can fight the parking and transportation agency in order to stop these predatory practices? Most students have rated the agency poorly and have complained but the school has done absolutely nothing about it. I'd like to see them gone, other schools with P&T handled by students and employees of the school are much better in my experience.

    Thanks

You can inquire with your college about the procedure for contesting the ticket. We have no information about the college or its administrative appeals system, so we can't provide any information.

You can lobby your college to change companies.
