FICA is federal insurance contributions act, no unemployment tax is deducted from your paycheck in your state, so you can't tell much by looking at your paycheck. But did you receive the sheet that shows monetary eligibility for benefits? Have they told you that you have a claim for xxx dollars for xxx number of weeks? That's going to be the decisive factor. If your wages from the university are not included, you will "appeal" the monetary decision, whether it was originally enough to set you up a claim or not, (this is called a "wage protest" and ask them to look for those university wages. Then they'll come back and tell you whether or not they were covered wages, and if they were, will add them in the appropriate quarters. Be sure you certify for the weeks as they pass while this is going on. If you were determined eligible, you will be paid only for weeks that you have certified for while waiting for the decision.
Total dollars earned in one quarter isn't the decisive factor exactly. You must have covered wages in at least two of these four quarters used, and they will be able to make the calculations and make them correctly regardless of what conclusions you reach with your estimates right now. You''ll have to wait and see.a
If you were to be determined eligibile for Maryland unemployment benefits, are drawing them and you decided to move out of state, the approved Maryland benefits are completely portable. You just find another Job Service office to register with immediately to apply for work in your new area, inform the Maryland interstate claims unit of your new address (of course,) and it's perfectly okay to move to, say Idaho and take your Maryland benefits with you, certifying for them each week until you find a new job in Idaho.
