    Unhappy Getting charged with theft

So I'm getting charged with 2 counts of theft, one is being filed as a misdemeanor 1 and the other is a felony 5. I already pleaded not guilty and I'm being summoned back to court at the end of the month. The thing is I just really want to get this over with and go on with my life, this is my first offense aside from a traffic violation. So I'm wondering what the chances are that I'll see time if I go back to court and plead no contest?

Yeah sorry about that, I guess I should have mentioned that. I live in Ohio, I got pulled over in july and they started to search my car and found a stolen wallet on the floor of my backseat. It had credit cards, gift cards but no money inside. I honestly don't even know who put it there but I sure as hell didn't steal it, but the officer knew who I was and knew who I hung out with. After that he started asking me about a bunch of cd's that were reported stolen out of a car the night before and obviously I had no idea what he was talking about. I was 17 at the time so he just called my mom and had her come and pick me up while my car was impounded.

I got called in to court last month and I am now being charged with both stealing the wallet (felony) and the cd's (misdemeanor). Obviously at the time I pleaded not guilty because I really wasn't, but I can't see any way out of this unless I hire an attorney which I'd rather not do. I'm about to start college in a couple weeks now and I really just want to get these stupid charges over with. So now if I plead guilty what are the chances I'll see time?

Stupid stupid stupid! Your facing felony charges and you don't want to hire an Attorney! Why not just plan on moving into big house then!

lol yeah I thought you'd say that. I'm guessing the best way out of this is to hire an attorney and maybe request a plea bargain to reduce charges and/or sentencing? I don't want to drag this out any longer than necessary. I'm wondering how much an attorney would cost for a case like this... I've never even so much as talked to an attorney before. It just sucks because I honestly didn't even steal anything...

Why would you want to plead guilty to offenses you didn't commit?

Consult a criminal defense lawyer about your possible defenses, and possible ways to avoid a criminal conviction (or at least avoid a felony conviction) if you do decide to plead guilty to something.
