My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan

Hi guys,

This may seem like an odd post but I'm actually asking a question for the purpose of research, for a book I'm writing. Living in the UK, it's hard to get the law elements of my book correct, especially when there are so many different states in the US with their own, different laws. I would truly appreciate any replies.

To give you an overview of the criminal situation: My character is from and lives in Detroit, Michigan. At the time of the assault, she is with a celebrity, and a particular member of the paparazzi gets too close and personal. My character ends up breaking his camera, and then punching him in the face, most likely breaking his nose.

My question is: How long would she likely wait after being booked and charged before she gets a court date? How far in advance would she know about it? One week in advance, a month in advance? Months?

As a secondary question, if you were required to undergo court ordered therapy, i.e counselling and anger management, how long would you have to start this? Would the court book it for you, so to speak, or would you have to make the arrangements yourself?

Again, thanks in advance for any replies. It would be really appreciated.
