What Can You Do About Abuse of a Teenager

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: Texas
My nephew is being emotional and now some physical abuse by his adopted parents. They ask me to come get him, and I did. He will be 16 years old in a month and we are doing a report with cps. The police made him go back with them and did a report, my sister is very evil to this child What else can be done? Can he ask for emancipation?

If "they" were his parents, they changed their mind about letting him stay with you? Why?

If the police had thought he was being abused, they would have called CPS and CPS would have put him in Foster care. Teenagers lie. Also not agreeing with the way someone is raising their child does not mean the child is being abused.

Define "very evil". Beats him with a belt? Evil. Burns him with cigarettes? Evil. Yells at him to do his homework, clean his room, and take out the trash or he's grounded? Not so much.

What else can be done?

If he is actually being abused, you call CPS, then get out of the way and let them investigate. If CPS finds there is no abuse, that's it. You're done. Tread lightly, Auntie.
