Default What is a Deferred Sentence

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
Recently I went to court for shoplifitng. The result was parole where I pay 40 a month and a fine of 300.
What I'm curious about is something my lawyer mentioned. He said that since I'm not yet 21 thats a good thing and that i can go about this so its not on my record i guess. is this the deferred program? They said that no one will know about it and that its private and will be kept out of everything.

I assume you were given HYTA probation. This is only open to those between 17 and 21 and if you successfully complete, the charges will be dismissed and you will be without a criminal record.

Does that mean I still have to state everything on job applications while I'm on probation?

If you're on HYTA you do not yet have a conviction.
