My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Texas

I've been working as a hotel supervisor for 2 and a half years. Done a lot for the place. All the employees and guests consider me either one of the best or the best employee in the hotel, always done my work, never received any write ups. A year ago manager's position came available, i did not get i, it went to someone else(not deserved), i continued doing my job as always. The manager was being really irresponsible, and wanted me to help him keep doing it, i did not, and he held a grudge on me for not doing him favors(cover shifts he was responsible for, because he wanted to go drink with his friends).

The hotel was recently bought by a new management company 30 days ago. They sent in a new General manager. My manager went to him and told him a lot of things that were not true, basically that im not a good employee. GM told me he had to let me go because I wasnt the right person for the job and they were looking for someone else, that was all the explination he did, I said "ok, if thats what you think of me based on someone elses comments thats fine',( i never confronted my manager for what he said about me) he then said i could keep my job but i would have to be demoted to another position in the hotel, he said i needed to sign some paperwork, i said ok, NEVER SIGNED ANYTHING, the demotion will start next week, he has not given me anything to sign yet. I am not planning on accepting or signing any paperwork about me being demoted.

My questions are, Am I being rightfully fired? can they let me go like that due to the reason the hotel just got bought by a new management company? Do i have good chances of getting unempleyment benefits??

thank you
