    Default Fourth Amendment Rights

The police came to my job, I was asked to come to the station for questioning.I was arrested and paid my bail. I went back to work to get my backpack. My co-worker gave the detective my back. I went back to the station for my backpack a detective said they were keeping my backpack until they confirm the contents.
Dont they have to give me an inventory of the contents?
But he mentioned some of items in my bag can they do that?

    Default Inventory Searches

It is common for the police to perform inventory searches of property, particularly cars, that come into their possession. Ordinarily this should be done according to an established policy in order to be excepted from the warrant requirement. This police department may well have such a policy with regard to items such as backpacks which come into its custody.
