Default Can You Request a GPS Tether as a Condition of Bail

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Indiana

A relative with a bad history wants to be bailed out of a county jail in Dearborn, Indiana. We want to help, but we want an assurance that the relative will not abscond or bring trouble. This person is fine with house arrest and/or having a GPS locator installed.

Is there a mechanism to make that a condition of bail? Can the inmate request a GPS locator cuff? Alternatively, are there do-it-yourself models available?

Bailing out someone who's possibly going to abscond is a GIANT risk. This is why bondsmen get their fee and employ people to track down the runners. You can't make any such request. There's nothing you can do to compel your relative to wear or keep wearing the tracking device. The tracking devices are not impossible to remove, they just are supposed to immediately warn the monitor on such attempts (of course a recent case still resulted in a guy putting it on his cat who walked around for a while before anybody noticed). Note that the police won't help you track him down if he runs or cuts off he device.

That should be reason enough not to help him get bailed out of jail, certainly not to put up any of your money.
