I have a question regarding the prosecution of illegal immigrants. Say Alice left her original country A to enter country B without proper documentation. Later Alice came back to her original country A. She might or might not have succeeded entering country B in the meanwhile. The question is whether country A can prosecute her for leaving the country without having a proper documentation for entering another country.
I understand that it depends on the country, but I think most western democracies would follow similar rules about this matter.
The question came up because recently people from Bangladesh and Myanmar tried to enter Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia by boats. Some are still in the seas, some are allowed to enter in and the rest are dead. Instead of showing any remorse to those people, the prime minister of Bangladesh warned immigrants that they will be prosecuted when they come back for illegally trying to enter another country. I am awed by her remark but have no idea where to look for the pertinent law. If any of you are aware of such laws from any western democracies, please let me know. That will be of tremendous help.
