My question involves criminal records for the state of: California

I have a question regarding the 7 year background check rule for the state of California. I was convicted of a felony in July 2008 and I am now approaching 7 years from that date. The felony conviction was from Illinois, I now live in California. As part of my conviction I was required to serve 1 year in a county jail along with 2 1/2 years probation from that July 2008 date. Under the California law, how long will businesses be able to legally search my background on the national database to find my felony? (BTW) it was a weird accident/incident that happened. No criminal record since or before.

Thanks for the help!
