Default Extracurricular Activities During Parenting Time

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: ohio

I have a visitation plan with my son and daughters father where I get them every other weekend and 42 consecutive days during the summer. He signed the children up for baseball and softball without my knowledge and I took him to court, where the judge said he didn't need to get my approval, even though it interferes with my parenting time.

My childRen have told me they don't want to do said sports, and want to visit me instead but there practices and game schedules are complete opposite from one another, making it almost impossible to get my time with the. One game and practice is in one location/time, the other a different location/ tone that same day! One of the locations is out in the middle of nowhere, and my ex knows I don't have a car to get her there but doesn't care.

I don't mind them being in sports, but if during my parenting time they don't want to go to a practice or game, can I make them? And if I don't will I be held in contempt?

Okay - but what actually happened in Court?

Were you actually ordered to take the children to the game on your time? Was Dad told he could take them only on his time? Was an alternative parenting plan made? What?

Sorry, I was ordered to take them to all practices and games Yes, since being in extracurricular activities were in the best interest of the child.

The judge didn't care that I was unable to transport them to every game or practice, she said that was my problem. I asked there dad if he could meet me somewhere close but on the bus line to take them to the practices/games that I couldn't during my time, sort of hand them off temporarily during those times but he said to figure it out myself. Then I brought up the fact that they don't even want to be enrolled and he told me I better have them there and hung up.

I initially took him to court for contempt because he refused to meet me halfway for pickup and drop offs, which are ordered. Along with that I requested a modification giving my boyfriend right of first refusal to watch them when I'm in school or work.

Did the court address the Extracurricular Activities while you have them ?

Well, the Judge has made her decision - if you won't send them, you'll be taken back to court on a contempt charge. If it happens often enough you may end up with a far more restricted visitation order.

And that wasn't ordered either, correct?

That one would be sure to raise an eyebrow or two; he's nothing to the children and as a general rule the court expects the other parent to be the one acting on ROFR.

No, that was actually granted. Because he has sporadic hours at work and the court knew that. Plus he was Ok with it.

Couldn't I bring up the fact that the children told, both him and I that they don't want to do sports?

Don't put the children in the middle of this. How old are they?

You got lucky with the ROFR, btw.

My daughter told her mother she didn't want to play sports as well, because she knew her mother didn't like it. Her mother was 100 percent convinced that daughter hated it and that it was all a scheme of mine to take time away from her. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just something to chew on.

To be fair, not all kids like sports.

I never did. I am completely unathletic, not very coordinated, and have had very poor vision my whole life, which made many sports difficult for me. Gym class was torture and embarrassing. Nothing like always being the absolute last to be picked for a team in gym. I would have been downright miserable being forced to play softball as a kid.

I have two kids, and the older likes some sports, but just the "individualized" ones, like swimming, biking, bowling and track. The younger one is an "artsy" kid, and would rather draw and make things than play a sport. I respect their differences.

I believe extracurricular activities are important, but I don't believe in forcing kids to do a particular activity that they truly hate, either.

Me neither. But in Mom's case the judge has already considered Mom's concerns.

Still, I'd like to know when this order was made.
