Can Federal firearm rights be restored after Domestic violence charges expunged ? Here's my story : 12 years ago I plead guilty to Misdemeanor R.S.14.35 Simple battery by way of Domestic violence (Not R.S.14:35.3 Domestic abuse violence ) in a Louisiana .I have served my sentence satisfying the court and made amends with the victim .This was my first and only involvement with the law and have been a law abiding citizen since . I have lost my federal right to possess firearms . Louisiana law restores firearm rights after for 10 years of completing sentence for D.V. charges. I'm going through the expungment process and would like to know if there is any way to have my Federal firearm rights restored . ( There's a grey area between RS14:35 and RS14:35.3 , I was not charged with D.V. and Sheriff's background check only shows Simple Battery but D.V. charges come up on federal file . CONFUSING ) I know I can legally own firearm within the state but would like the Peace of mind knowing I'm good on the Federal side also .
