My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: WASHINGTON
Many years ago, in an interview, I was being questioned by the interviewer from a printed list of questions. I asked why he didn't just give me the list and let me write out my answers. as I remember, the answer was something along the lines of ' can't it would be ?illegal? due to some law or other' it would be considered a test and we can't do that.
very vague I know ...
in recent years I've had numerous potential employers have me do an "assessment". sometime called a personality test. Often they will give questions like
given such and such a situation, how would you respond? (mostly on customer service type jobs, giving examples of irate customers to employee theft).
I recently had one that was a battery of 5 tests. 3 'personality' and 2 skills assessment, verbal and numerical reasoning.
I have yet to 'pass' one of these assessments, and no one will give me any results (so I could improve myself) or let me discuss my answers. it always seems to be black box Pass/Fail, no feedback.
I find this very frustrating.
I tend to think this must be legal since so many employers use it, but in reference to my first paragraph, have always wondered what's the deal.
Can this practice be challenged for any reason? I am diagnosed as major depressive disorder, and have applied to SS, but they disregard my failings.
thank you
