Missouri law provides that following a paternity action, "The judgment or order may direct the father to pay the reasonable expenses of the mother's pregnancy and confinement." RSMo Sec. 210.841.1(5). That is, the law authorizes a judge deciding a paternity case to award compensation to the mother for the costs of prenatal care, labor and delivery. That said, it's possible that paternity in the case under discussion will be established by an AOP instead of a paternity action.

Thank you for clarifying what you felt was ambiguous. OP is not required to contribute to her expenses by law before birth and a court order to do so. If, however, OP wants to be there for what he believes is the birth of his child, he needs to make positive headway with her parents. Contributing beforehand will assist with this and he might obtain his goal of being permitted access to the birth.

Actually I disagree with one point that Disagreeable made, or if I misunderstood it, want to clarify: OP has no legal obligation to pay for mom's medical bills. He will only have an obligation to pay a portion of the baby's medical bills and that does not include labor and delivery.

If you don't have a job, you need to get one. If DNA proves you're the father, you will be paying child support for at least the next 18 yrs. The girls parents decide if she can see you or not until she turns 18. Once you're found to be the father and a court acts on that and gives you visitation, you can see the baby but not her until she turns 18, unles her parents agree. In other words, you may be able to see the child but not the mother, until the mother is 18.
