My question involves vehicle registration laws for the state of: California

Hello, I just bought a new car. This makes me have two cars now.

My old one has serious mechanic problems that make it almost impossible to drive anymore. It still has auto insurance and a valid registration until 01/2016. I'm planned to just keep it in my garage and not use it anymore. After 01/2016, I planned to file PNO on it. Months before 01/2017, a smog check is require on it, that's when I planned to retired my old card because I'm sure it will fail it.

If I decide to remove the auto insurance off of my old car, will it the current registration be suspended? If so, can I still file PNO on it after 01/2016 after the registration has been suspended?
