I am in a similar situation.
In my offer sheet my soon to be former employer states:
"Relocation Assistance
We are also offering assistance with relocation based on our understanding of your needs. Specifically, we will pay you $9,000.00 (gross) which is equivalent to one month's salary for miscellaneous out of pocket relocation expenses. The before applicable taxes gross amount referred to above will be payable and directly linked to you establishing residency in the area. This amount will be subject to a refund to the company if you voluntarily resign prior to the completion of two years of employment. Also included are expenses related to the movement of personal goods"
My resignation occurs within the two year window. The company allegedly is going to pursue repayment of the $9000 plus temporary housing expenses and the movement of personal goods totaling in excess of $50,000.
That is not my interpretation of the paragraph. Your interpretation and advice is welcome.
