Let's correct terminology first. Right to work means you do not have to join a union to get work - thus the reference to "paying dues". It has nothing to do with her situation. What you are both talking about is employment at will. 49 out of 50 states are employment at will states and the 50th state recognizes the at-will doctrine in some situations.
However, even in an employment at will state, you have some legal protections. In your state, as in many if not most states, you cannot be fired in retaliation for attempting to assert your legal rights. Not legally, anyway.
