Caught Shoplifting Collectibles at Target

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
so I was at target today and in so many words I took some cards like baseball cards for my cousin and instead of buying them I just opened them and slipped then in my pants after purchasing other goods as I walked out I was approached by a security guard who showed me evidence of what I took and said nicely can I have what you took just give me the thing and your not in trouble and so I did and left that's the end of it but my question is, is anything else going to happen? I just left with my stuff after that can anything else happen?

It's possible they will report it to the police, but unlikely.
It's possible they will report it to loss prevention and on to the Target "lawyers" for the civil recovery, but if they didn't take your name etc... probably not.

You're lucky. This could have been bad for you.

Well I'm obviously not going to do it again and I regret the decision I made dearly. I just acted on impulse. But yes no information was taken down no names pictures etc. I've learned my lesson and won't do it again.

Awesome job stealing for Christmas. Santa the Loss Prevention Agent sure knows who is naughty. You will be getting a Civil Demand and a ban from Target. How could you not afford to pay for these cards? So if you got away with the cards from Target your Cousin would be in possession of stolen property. Ant that is a crime too.

Stop stealing and go get a job. Hate to be so callous but who in their right mind would even think to steal something for a Christmas present?

A lot is going to happen to you . For one your on camera. Two Santa knows you stole. Three you feel guilty. And Four Tell your Cousin's Mother that you tried to steal his Christmas gift. See what she says.

Yes I know but I realize how lucky I am they didn't take any info as to me reading other stories on here pertaining to other people who stole. I've learned my lesson and yes I will stay out of that and other targets for a good amount of time if not forever.
