Shoplifter Was Stopped at Store for Stealing but Refused to Stay

My question involves criminal law for the state of: ohio....a friend shoplifted in another town and they tried to take them to the office but refused they said they would call the police and I told them to go ahead. they werent seen on camera . they just noticed that he had an item but when he went to pay they noticed that he didnt scan it. as he left the store they stopped and aked about it he told them he'd put it back. will they try to find him. he paid for some stuff with my credit card and took 20 dollars of stufff, he was no where near a camera nor where there any in the parking lot. can they send police in my town to get him. should he take it back or will they still charge him?

If they did not get his plate off the parking lot camera, they will likely be knocking on your door first from the credit card. It appears this was a premeditated theft and a conspiracy between both of you. Where are you hoping to not spend Christmas?

first, you really have no idea where there were cameras. They can be just about any place. Heck, they could have one looking right into your face when you are at any check out lane and you would never notice it. They can be hidden just about anywhere. Given the state of electronics, they can be very very small.

Not a typical commercial security camera but it could be used for that. That little thing could me mounted in the frame of the video monitor at the self checkout stand. Cameras that are typically used to mount in things like the frame of the video monitor aren't much bigger.

how can he be charged if nothing was possibly on camera. when they stoped him they asked about the items he told him he put the items back. because he saw them in the cart but when he checked out they weren't ? it also happened in another town so if my credit card was used which officials will be sent?

Or better yet the OP is in the middle of a family Christmas diner at his house when all of a sudden a knock on the door from the police. Everyone is watching in awe. Then the OP is arrested and taken to jail in the middle of the Christmas dinner.
