    Question Caught Shoplifting Spraypaint

So I just turned 17 about a month ago and I got caught stealing 2 rust-oleum spray cans under $10 dollars. They made me give them one of my parents numbers to come pick me up or have a family friend or member pick me up if parents couldn't pick me up. Someone had to pick me up within 30 minutes or they would released me to the PD. So my mom had a family friend pick me up and called my mom asking for our address and she gave them our address and security told me that my mom would be receiving a $50-500 dollar fine in the mail. This was in California.

Is this gonna go in any record?

Is it gonna prevent me from getting a job?

    What can I do?

If you are criminally charged, then that goes on your record, presumably in your case a juvenile record.

If you choose to commit crimes, you should anticipate that you are going to get a criminal record and that it will impact your ability to get a job.

What can you do? Stop stealing and stop tagging, for starters.

If the police were not involved, then you will likely have to pay the civil assessment which will be between $50 and $500 and likely about $350. If you don't get charged, it's time to consider your lucky stars, stop tagging, and get on the straight and narrow.

Oh, and as a note, if you are tagging as part of a gang or "krew" that activity can be charged as a felony and gang enhancements can be tacked on to any conviction so that you serve several YEARS of time beyond that which you might otherwise get for the damage you cause.
