Unhappy Caught Shoplifting at Nordstroms in Illinois

I was caught shoplifting in Nordstroms an article of clothing that was around 42 dollars. I am 20 years old and this was the first time I had ever gotten caught/stolen something. I was escorted into a security room and I had to give my social security number and they took down the rest of my information on my drivers license and my phone number. They told me because I was compliant and calm and the item that I shoplifted was minor they will not contact the police and will not get them involved. However, I signed two papers and was told that i would receive a letter in the mail asking me to pay anywhere from 1 to 1000 dollars for my shoplifting. I have a few questions about this....

    1) Because my item was around 42 dollars how much am i likely to pay in fines?
    2) Will this be on a criminal record of any sort?
    3) Will I be required to go to court?
    4) Am I being charged with anything?

    Thank-you

Also, I was told I was banned from the store for 2 years and it would be considered trespassing. I thought I would also add that.

Also, I had one more question with it.....

Will any business or job I apply for be able to know about this situation?

    The Illinois statutes say,
Quote Quoting Sec. 16A-7. Civil Liability.
    (a) A person who commits the offense of retail theft as defined in Section 16A-3 paragraphs (a), (b), (c), or (h) of this Code, shall be civilly liable to the merchant of the merchandise in an amount consisting of:
    [indent

    (i) actual damages equal to the full retail value of the merchandise as defined herein; plus

(ii) an amount not less than $100 nor more than $1,000; plus

(iii) attorney's fees and court costs.[/indent]
    (b) If a minor commits the offense of retail theft, the parents or guardian of said minor shall be civilly liable as provided in this Section; provided, however that a guardian appointed pursuant to the Juvenile Court Act or the Juvenile Court Act of 1987 shall not be liable under this Section. Total recovery under this Section shall not exceed the maximum recovery permitted under Section 5 of the "Parental Responsibility Law", approved October 6, 1969, as now or hereafter amended.

    (c) A conviction or a plea of guilty to the offense of retail theft is not a prerequisite to the bringing of a civil suit hereunder.

    (d) Judgments arising under this Section may be assigned.

From what you have written, no.

Then stay out of the store until the two years are up.

    1) Because my item was around 42 dollars how much am i likely to pay in fines?Normal Civil Demand is around $200.00 this is outside of any criminal fines you might face
    2) Will this be on a criminal record of any sort?I would say no as it appears you were not charged
    3) Will I be required to go to court?See last answer
    4) Am I being charged with anything? You tell us. did you get a citation were you taken into custody by Police?
5)I was told I was banned from the store for 2 years and it would be considered trespassingYesd an dif caught you would face tresspassing charges and Store could decide to charge you for the shoplift
6)Will any business or job I apply for be able to know about this situationIf you were not charged then there is no record outside of the store
