Default What Laws Protect a Handicapped Volunteer from Discrimination

My question involves civil rights in the State of: IL

I was the person who posted about the worship leader kicking off the handicap person on our worship team. I take it then from the replies I received that since this is a volunteer position that this handicap person can be removed and there is no recourse for her. Am I understanding the law right?

The answer isn't any different now than the last time you asked.

I was thinking more about the Americans with Disability Act violation last time but does the law protect the handicap in another way that does not fall under that category?

    Nope.

The lady in the wheelchair is free to volunteer and worship elsewhere.

So are you and anybody else who objects to the worship leader's behavior.

In your other thread you wrote:

"this is really bothering me that a "christian" and a pastor's wife would be like this to another person."

Frankly, comes as no surprise when things like the Crusades and the Inquisitions are considered.

It is not how we are to act. We have instructions and guidelines to follow but humans do not always follow them, including myself. That is where forgiveness steps in. Well that I guess that is the point I am at. I guess I should just forgive this act. Thanks for all your help. I really do appreciate your input.

TAXING MATTERS told you so explicitly in the last case. Even if she had been an employee it wouldn't.

I know you're disappointed with the church behavior, but there's nothing you can do against them under the law.

Many churches have an internal dispute resolution process. It is designed to keep disagreements settled in a church satisfactory manner. I suggest she bring the issue before the board or commission for resolution.
