In LA many misdemeanor offenses can be prosecuted by the city attorney as opposed to the district attorney.
And a conviction of PC 242 can result in fines of up to $2,000 and up to 6 months in jail - or any combination thereof.

Last entery! We advised our son to be honest & tell the hearing people the truth, that he hit the boy first and now I find myself second guessing myself

Is that why he got the appearance ticket???
Yes but we thought that the whole purpose of those hearings was to "mediate" or negotiate between himself and the other boy. So why would my son being honest cause more problems at this so called mediation?
It is possible that, based on the information provided by both parties, the CA decided moving forward with charges was the proper course of action.
Oh ok, I think I understand! So these hearing people, the "California", were ready to settle it between the two boys, but they wanted my son to provide the evidence or testimony that would help them with their case, should the other little twirp want to go ahead and still press charges

PS I think that both boys are twirps!!! we are so angry at our son right now!!!
We don't know what this hearing was. If it was a city or district attorney hearing, then it was probably an attempt to determine if this could be mediated. Apparently it couldn't.
If our son, refused to mediate, then we will have to let him sort it out. Is there a chance to contact the courts and find out how it went and who refused to cooperate?
