That's one of the issues about which we attempt to remind people, when they ask about representing themselves. Somebody without legal training can lose track of the presentation of their case, or even fail to recognize what evidence is relevant, and end up presenting an inadequate case despite having the potential to present a much stronger case. That doesn't mean it's necessarily cost-effective to retain a lawyer, but it does highlight why people should consider retaining counsel.
