My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Florida
County: Broward
Can a landlord request double the security deposit because I'm young (29 years old). Seems to me this would be some kind of discrimination.

It is some kind of discrimination, it's just not the illegal kind. I suspect it has more to do with your financial qualifications than with your age.
The Florida landlord tenant statutes does not limit the amount of a security deposit but there are other provisions that you should be aware of:
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/...s/0083.49.html
And if you don't know this already, you don't have to accept the landlord's terms, you can walk away from the deal and find someplace else.
I'm wealthy, so it has nothing to do with financial qualifications. Was mainly just curious if a landlord can use age, as a factor to require a higher security deposit when the real estate listing has one month required. Based on your links it looks like in Florida they can vary deposit requirements for whatever reason they wish.
Then why not buy yourself a home instead of renting?
Yes.
Accept for those reasons prohibited by fair housing laws.
Is a landlord actually asking for a higher deposit due to your age? Did he/she say that? Or is your question just hypothetical because you are just curious?
I would take this as a sign of things to come and walk away.
