Default How to Stop Bullying Emails

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Illinois and florida. I am Illinois, online provider is florida.

I visited an only trading services provider, took part in a free webinar and concluded his services were not for me. I was contacted by their sales and I responded I wasnt interested. I was then contacted again where I explained that after doing my own research I had discovered that there were too many negative complaints against the proprietor, and I wasnt interested.

Shortly afterwards I received a barrage of offensive, argumentative and threatening emails over the course of three days. Eventually I stopped responding to him asking him to cease, and it went quiet. After three weeks or so this Friday, the same proprietor has started again sending me offensive, threatening and bullying emails. When I mentioned I was seeking legal help, he then told me he would sue me for as much as possible for defamation. I am not a US citizen and have no experience of this in this country. A lawyer I spoke to today has mentioned reporting the business to the BBB, and he mentioned contacting the Florida DA as a starting point. I have done this, but from the threats, I am wondering if I can do anything to stop the harassment for good?

    Thanks for any advice.

My mail program has filtering capability. Have you looked for this on your software?

DaveM, yes, good point. I can use that. If thats all that can be done, then sure. But from the content of the emails, it feels to me like something should be done about it. Back in the UK this type of behavior isnt tolerated; I realize its different here which I respect. I am aware I am not the only person that has gone through this experience with the proprietor. Is he allowed to get away with it?

You may certainly complain to the Florida Attorney General. On her web-site there is a "quick links" box which will direct you to the complaint forms. I doubt that anything will happen.
I did not recommend filtering because "thats all that can be done" but because it will work, is under your control, and is easy.

Block his email address, so you won't receive anymore emails from him.

And don't be worried about him trying to sue you. It won't happen, because he is in the wrong, not you.

You have proof that he started this whole thing, and that he has continued to bully you for no reason. I would take it up with general attorney, or whoever deals with that stuff.
