Default Will Default on U.S. Debts Affect Eligibility to Enter the U.S.

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of:

I need your advice. I left USA 5 years ago due to a violent relationship with my ex. I was in USA for 4 years and have a debt of $5000 in Creditcards and personal loans. Also i bought a car on loan and paid half way through and left the car at the place where i bought it when i left for India. Now i'm planning to go back to USA to work. What will happen to me? Will there be any action taken against me legally? Will i be arrested near the Immigration/port of entry in USA? Please let me know.

We don't arrest people for debts. It's quite possible that you have judgements pending and if they find you they can attach your bank accounts and income in the US. I don't even think it will hurt your chances of getting a visa.

A poor credit report may make it difficult to get a job, a place to live or items you need for a life in the US (like another car). There is a statute of limitations on debt. If it has not passed, make arrangements to make payments for what you owe.

He didn't indicate what state he got the debt in, but I suspect that the limitations period tolled as soon as he left the country.

He should check. Being a deadbeat can derail a job opportunity. A car plus $5K is not insignificant over a relatively short period of time - especially if he was a H-1B worker who generally would make twice the median wage in most areas.
