Default Neighbor Bitten by a Stray Dog on Our Property

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: California

A neighbor was bitten by a small stray dog that popped out of our bushes. It has been roaming the area on and off for weeks. Animal control was called about 4 different times before then but they could not catch the dog. Am i liable for my neighbors injuries?

    No.

    Why do you ask?

Is your neighbor making noises about you being liable?

If yes, report it to your homeowners insurance company claims department and let the experts handle it.

In fact, your policy requires you to do that anyway.

Do not get into any discussions with your neighbor.

I suddenly got a text message saying her hospital bill came in and that the hospital told her i was liable. I will let my insurance handle it then.

There is no way that anyone at a hospital would give legal advice. You would be liable if it was your dog, but it was a stray.

Thats pretty much what i thought i just wanted to confirm. Supposedly the hospital told her to go after me because it happened on my property. Ill just let her talk with my insurance company. Thank you for the quick replies adjusterjack and llworking.

If you have ever left food out for the dog to eat, the dog could be considered your dog and just might make you liable.
