    Default Georgia Emancipation Process

I'm 17 live in the state of Georgia. I'm currently living at my mothers apartment with my siblings who are 22 and 18. Only one of them (the 22 year old) and myself have jobs. I work two jobs both at resturants making suficient pay. The reason why I am looking to be emancipated is because my mother no longer lives in this apartment that she leased and now lives with a boyfriend and his family of 7 in a tiny apartment across from the complex of our owns. We are going to get get evicted soon because of her many mistakes and my siblings and I are looking to move out soon. But because I am not 18 or emancipated I can't sign the lease along with my sister and we would have to settle for a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 occupants. I really want to help my family out and very quickly if possible so I can sign my name on the lease and we get an apartment that is big enough.

How should I go about getting emamcipated?
I downloaded the Georgia emancipation petition PDF file and seems to have all the correct forms. Do I just print them and take it to the Juvenile Court? Is it possible to mail them? And how long does the process take?

I'm well aware of the requirements that are needed to be granted emancipation. And I do believe I meet them even without the help of my sister.

    Thank You

I have no way of knowing what documents you are looking at, where you got them, or whether they are complete or current. If you have questions about documents you found online, I suggest posing your questions to the website where you found them.

In general, originals are filed with the court with copies served on all interested parties -- which would normally mean your parents.

Why would there be 5 occupants when there are only 3 of you? Why do you need to sign the lease? Does your sister not have enough income by herself to rent a place big enough for the three of you?

Just so that you know up front, the GA legislature has, within the last 8 years, deliberately made the process of emancipating a minor so difficult as to be almost impossible. GA DOES NOT WANT to emancipate minors and they will be very carefully looking for any possible reason to deny your petition.

And the fact that you're seeking to live with MULTIPLE other people, rather than on your OWN (which is what emancipation is all about - you showing the court that you can support YOURSELF), is generally going to shoot you down.

If you're old enough and mature enough to be living on your own, you're old enough and mature enough to figure out what to do with the forms without help.
