Default Is It Legal to Copy and Distribute Files Containing Public Domain Movies

Some companies sell public domain movies, on dvd, to the public. Is it then legal for the public to copy and distribute the VTS*.VOB files, which contain the public domain movies?

Here are some precautions, for the public, I thought of. What other precautions do you think of?
The United States is, where the movie is public domain, where it is shiped from, where it is shiped to.
The VOB file has no precievable watermark, and has not been enhansed.

Default Re: Is It Legal to Copy and Distribute Files, Containing Public Domain Movies

You have to make sure that the movies are indeed in the public domain. Some of the alleged movies that had lapsed into the public domain were determined not to be. Just because the movie copyright might not be valid anymore, if it's based on a book, if it ontains music, etc... these copyrights may still apply.
