A person doesn't get to use "parent" status to avoid punishment for going against a court order...unless you meant something else.

I guess my questions here have to do with goals, motivations and a bit of a reality check.

I completely get the frustration at not receiving the court-ordered (it is court-ordered, right?) support. I fully understand trying to use whatever methods are available to get what the court says you are due.

I'm wondering, though, of what value it is to have his license suspended, thus ensuring that he is unable to work, unable to earn money, and thus unable to provide the support that you're looking for this to shake loose.

In other words, while this may be an available option, I question whether it will provide the desired result.

    Realistically, this is a crap-shoot.

Do nothing and the owing parent "walks" (for want of a better term), knowing that "they" can't get to "him" .

Do something and there's at least a chance of it being enough of a kick to illustrate "nope, not going to get away with that".

OP seems to have little to lose, really.

yes, the suspended license is the desired result at this time. keep in mind he has not worked since we split up (he earns some income in mysterious ways, of which i do not see a single dollar). he has told me he will not work because then he will have to give me his money. he doesn't get it that this is not for me to get my nails done or frolick on a beach, its for his son for things like food and clothing and other basic necessities. i have in the past asked him for help with day care costs. he could pay directly to the day care. he said no he would not pay these costs "just so i can go to work"...as if that is something similar to frolicking on the beach. so he is headstrong and does these things out of immaturity. he apparently has no qualms not working, not earning money, not supporting his child and is getting by just fine for himself and has no intention of changing. so yes i see your point about the job but that has been a non issue and i dont anticipate that changing any time soon. so if he has no intention of working why does he need a license? so he can run around town all day with his boys?

can i file a petition for order to show cause in the state of il and list the amount he is behind based on current information DCFS gives me? as i said, i would like him to face a judge about this and maybe get a little hand slap at least. something to start this process for real as it appears the state has too large a backlog to make this their priority.
