Default The State Department Gave Out Information About Me to Another Country

    Hello,

I had a problem with the State Department and I was wondering if I have a civil case. What happened was I was applying for a work visa in another country and they were giving me a hard time. Because my passport didn't contain my middle name. So I scanned a copy and added my middle name (I altered a copy of the document not the document itself). It was a stupid decision on my part. Anyway I wasn't very good since it had the same issue date and number so they called the department of state and asked about it. The state department then called me and I confessed what I had done. The lady said they may not be able to tell them because of rules that they have about what they can reveal to other countries. Well turns out the State Department did indeed tell them what had happened and of course my visa was denied.

What I want to know is does the Department of State have the right to reveal information of that nature to other countries and if they don't do I have an actionable case?

    Thank you

Um, you got nothing bub. The State Department isn't just going to ignore someone forging a passport, or a copy of one.

Even if they hadn't said that Starnexus did the forging, the foreign nation probably would have rightly assumed you did.

Let me see if I have this straight. You made a copy of your passport, inserted your middle, and then sent that to another country to apply for a work visa. Now I assume from you saying that this country was giving you a hard time that you had already sent this country a copy of your passport that did not contain your middle name.

Now they have to different copies of your passport and when they contact the State Department to verify which is valid and when the SD tells them you think that creates some sort of cause of action?

Instead of going through the process of getting your passport corrected, you chose instead to submit a forgery. The cause of your problem can be found in the mirror. Sue him.

It was a stupid decision on my part.
    There's your sign.

All of the information on your passport is electronically available to other countries who participate in the various treaties. The physical book and stamps while still in use are relics of the last century. Your travel identity is by and large kept online. Whatever the other country figured it out as soon as they typed your passport number in even no matter how good your forgery is.

You want to sue the State Department because you did something so irretrievably stupid I can't believe you ever thought it would work and got caught?

You might be liable for Federal prosecution for presenting a copy of a forged Federal document.

He didn't forge the document. He forged the copy he submitted to a foreign country. I doubt the State Department either cares nor has anything to cite him with. Now if he'd modified his actual passport, that MIGHT be a different story.
