Yes, the law does seem to cover only commercial background checks, but it is not just about credit. There is a 7 year law that pertains to criminal records. I wonder if that has any influence on others to limit the scope of what they check, how far they go.

I can't see how a 17 year old misdemeanor has any relevance or is fair to judge me by, but nothing has happened yet so I'll just wait.

I was honest when filling out internal paperwork, and put down my old DUI, the date, and a brief description. But I didn't know that there was a conviction on the allegations made by the cop. I just found that out today when I checked in the traffic division of court on another matter, and the clerk offered to print my record for me. I was shocked. I still am. The judge ridiculed the cop in court so I'm not clear on how it turned out that way. Interestingly I received no penalties for that, no jail time, no fines so that supports my sense that the judge was trying to get it dismissed. I was letting an attorney handle it for personal reasons. I don't know if I want to go into all that; it is highly personal and I must be able to have some protections for privacy. But I will be honest when if I'm asked. And the honest answer is that I am surprised and puzzled.
