    If you drop out with prior approval from your school's immigration office, you may qualify for a short grace period -- that's something to address with the office of the college at issue. If you drop out without any such prior approval, you get no grace period and you're expected to immediately leave the U.S..

    I know of a university that will make sure they get to the airport for the trip home.

    If she was living in university housing, she should have had to vacate her room/apartment immediately. There is usually a waiting list.
