My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: California
I had a DUI back in 2007 (first time offense), did 15 days in county jail instead of 1 month community service. At the time of the DUI I had a suspended license and expired insurance. Then in March of 2008 my work forced me to move out of the country and I have been gone since then, 6+ years. I am relocating back to the US and want to get everything settled but not sure which is the best way. I also need to get my license reinstated as to drive to/from work. I had originally paid for and attended my DUI classes which was for 3 months, but then took a LOA to only realize that it wouldn't extended for the entire period I was gone (I didn't realize I would be gone this long).
I'm sure I will still need to take the classes, but I am not living in California anymore, so how will that work? Also the remaining DUI fee was forwarded to the Franchise Tax Board. Should I pay them or the court?
Lastly, is there any chance of doing all this on my own without going to jail? Obviously since the DUI I have not driven or had any other arrests or probation violations, minus all that above.
