My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Florida
Hello,
I found that a suit was filed against me last month from Portfolio Recovery Associates. I found this while checking up court records online after getting a speeding ticket. (I paid it). So far, I havent seen any process servers or gotten anything in the mail. I saw that a phone number called (no voicemail) that matched a google hit for Portfolio Recovery Associates. I have a date showing for pre-trial in a month....
Last year, I was sued by Capital One for an old CC. I was never served and the summons was returned as non-served. Its been over a year and I havent heard anything further, despite it still showing as active.
Now, I know alot have beat PRA after denying the debt. I know that I could do the same and probably have them go away for awhile...But, I am trying to clean up my credit now that I graduated college and became an engineer. But, being so fresh out, I dont have any money to give these people right now.
Should I just sit and wait to be served? Maybe they will just give up like last years fiasco? Since I havent been served, I dont know how much they want. I see its between $2501 and $5000, so I assume its $5000 :-) That would take me 6 months to save up (Im getting married in a few weeks and will be broke after that).
Please help! I dont know what I should do. I feel that I wont be as lucky as last year and slip through the cracks.
