My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Montana

I received a notification from a collector on a debt that is about 15 years old. They state they cannot sue because it has been too long. They also state they will not report the debt to credit reporting agencies. They offered me a settlement of 15% of the original debt, which of course is very appealing. I am quite certain, because of the age of this debt, that it has also rolled off the records at credit agencies.

Given the above, is there any benefit for me to pay off old debt besides a great settlement offer? They can't sue me. It is no longer on my credit report. Even if I did pay it, I must assume they would not report the payment to credit agencies either because of the age of the debt.
