My question involves an eviction in the state of: Colorado
My roommate (master tenant) told me via text message on August 5th that he planned on moving out by the end of the month. Myself and 2 other roommates are renting rooms from him on month to month lease basis. I asked him if he wanted us (me and my other 2 roommates) to vacate before the end of August or if we could simply take over his lease of the apartment and continue living in the apartment. He said 'no, there is a wait list for any apartments and we have to move out'. Myself and a fellow roommate went to the leasing office and they said that it would be okay for us to get on the current lease for the apartment after completing a form. After speaking with my roommate, I told him that we (myself and the other tenants) needed to talk. After a brief texting conversation, it turned ugly. He now is under the assumption that I am trying to get him kicked out of his lease and told me that I have to be out by the end of the month. I am not stupid, so I know that I have 30 days from the 1st of the next month to vacate the premises, so I know that I have at least until September 30th. I was just curious....Is there anything that he can do to get me out sooner than that? Also, considering that he violated his current lease with his property management, can I get him kicked off the lease and myself and my fellow roommates instated on the lease to take it over? Also...What happens to our (or just my) security deposit, which he is still currently in possession of and how can we assure we (I) get it back?
Thanks!
Ed
